Yet, each year, the excitement and joy are overshadowed by frustration and disappointment as the studio imposes an exorbitant pay-to-play model, exploiting loyal fans who just want to enjoy the game. For me and my family, this has become a painful cycle of financial strain as we are practically forced to shell out $100 for the game, only to realize later that playing competitively demands a recurring investment of thousands more.
San Diego Studios has transformed what should be a source of entertainment into a monopolistic venture where the sole aim seems to be extracting as much money as possible from its dedicated players. By maintaining a stranglehold on the MLB game license, they effectively eliminate any chance for other companies to offer a diverse gaming experience, thereby stifling competition and innovation in the realm of baseball video games.
This isn’t just about the money—it’s about a betrayal of trust. A game that should be inspiring the new generation to love baseball is instead teaching them about the harsh realities of monetization and corporate greed. The baseball community, especially the younger players, deserves better – they deserve a choice that San Diego Studios is unwilling to provide.
