25 oct 2023

Hello Neighbors,

We are reaching out to urge you to cast your vote on November 7th for positive change in our schools.  You may also vote early from 10/28-11/5 at The Education Center at Turtle Back Zoo (Mon-Sat 10am-8pm and Sun 10am-6PM).

Vote Longley Richards, Shivani, and Finkelstein for Millburn Board of Education. Choose 5D, 6D and 7D on the ballot.

This election year is significant for the Millburn School District. There are critical issues at the forefront. Change is desperately needed and we can all play a vital role in shaping the future by electing new Board of Education members who are committed to moving our district forward rather than remaining with the status quo.

The need for change is shared by many members of our community!  Over 400 parents and students attended the BoE Forum asking for change and over 1,800 signed this petition in favor of change. These numbers represent just a fraction of support for change.

To learn more about our goals and plans, see this presentation. It also contains data vs peer schools proving that Millburn limits opportunities for our students. This tracking begins early in Middle School weeding out capable students. New grading policies coupled with improved pathways will help all Millburn students.

Together, let’s ensure that ALL students experience an educational journey that fosters confidence, a love of learning, and helps students reach their full individual potential.

Longley Richards, Shivani and Finkelstein plan to focus on improving the culture by creating new policies at the Board level to effectively drive change. Our peer schools have changed with the times by modernizing their curriculums and pathways. Like our peer schools, Millburn must evolve so our students reach their highest potential. These THREE candidates have listened to the community and worked tirelessly to understand the issues. They all concur that it is crucial to:

  • Improve the overall journey through Millburn schools by implementing student-centered grading policies as opposed to the current harsh grading culture
  • Modernize the curriculum, course offerings, and pathways to help students find their passion
  • Represent the community and provide active governance at the board level
  • Support student wellness
