Every time we pass by the two derelict houses on Connaught Street in Phibsborough, our hearts sink. They have been an eyesore for decades, now even the hoarding around them is defaced with graffiti and a testament to neglect. Dublin City Council has the responsibility and the power to repurpose these buildings. Our Residents' Association has spent years lobbying our elected representatives, asking them to respond to the needs of our community.

These neglected buildings diminish the architectural and historic value of the neighborhood. This is not just about preserving structures but about respecting and rejuvenating a community while responsibly catering to its future. 

With investment these houses can be salvaged and restored to our street. "Value for money" is a relative term. Not spending money in a timely fashion has devalued our area and eroded our faith in our representatives. It is impossible to put a value on undermining the social contract.

Dublin City Council, it's time to act. Having "no plans to develop these derelict houses" is not acceptable to our community. They fell into ruin on your watch.
