The Issue

To submit to the House Of Commons a demand to conduct an enquiry into the financial justifications of Supermarket and Energy companies reporting record profits whilst people in the UK skip meals!

If there is no justification then these ever increasing costs must be reversed and capped and the companies punished.

There is currently no incentive for them to ever reverse the cost increases as they have discovered that the UK population will tolerate their finances being continually exploited by corporate greed as they do not know what other options they have.

In recent years, millions of families across the country have been grappling with an unprecedented cost of living crisis. Amidst this turmoil, one group has continued to thrive: the CEOs of large supermarkets and energy providers. It has come to light that while ordinary citizens are tightening their belts, many CEOS in these industries are pocketing enormous bonuses, raising concerns about the ethicality of such remunerations in the face of financial struggle for so many.

Simultaneously, we have observed a persistent pattern of price hikes, with the cost of essential goods and energy skyrocketing. These increases are not only disproportionate, but they also bear the hallmarks of price gouging—a practice where sellers increase prices to unreasonable levels, far above the fair market value, often amid crises. The situation raises serious questions about potential monopolistic practices that limit competition and push prices even higher.

Recent reports have highlighted instances where supermarket chains and energy companies report record profits while simultaneously increasing prices. This discrepancy indicates the need for a thorough investigation into the financial activities of these corporations, as well as the policies that allow CEOS to receive extravagant bonuses at the expense of the average consumer.

We urge the government to initiate a public inquiry into the business practices of these large corporations. Such an inquiry should focus on:

- The justifications behind CEO bonuses during times of financial crisis.
- The extent to which monopolistic practices exist and how they contribute to the cost of living crisis.
- The identification of price gouging instances and measures to prevent them.
- Recommendations for policy changes that ensure fair pricing and ethical business practices.

A transparent and comprehensive public inquiry will not only restore public trust but also pave the way for necessary reforms to protect consumers. Join us in calling for accountability and ensure that the financial well-being of everyday citizens is prioritized over excessive corporate profits and rewards. Sign this petition to demand immediate action and promote a fairer economic environment for all.
