Hi everyone,
The vote on the film studio/data center project is this Wednesday, March 18th. First of all, I need to make a correction to the resolution number I previously posted. The correct resolution number for this project is Res. 326-17. I'm very sorry for any confusion! I also wanted to share some last-minute info and calls to action.
This op-ed in The Chattanoogan calculates that the county is potentially missing out on $61,715,000 in rent over the 35-year lease period in the current iteration of the lease agreement with Jailhouse Properties. In other words, the rent to be paid for the county-owned building is lower than what the property is valued at. By quite a lot! Think of where that money could go...
A Georgia movie studio is now looking to convert into a data center. This is exactly the kind of thing I worry about with the Jailhouse Studios project.
CALLS TO ACTION:
- Send an email to your commissioner via Action Network: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/public-engagement-is-needed-before-downtown-chattanooga-data-centerjail-house-studios-vote?source=direct_link&
A couple clicks & it's done! We're trying to get to 1,000 emails sent to the commissioners by Wednesday! - Attend the commission meeting at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, March 18th (the day of the vote). The meeting takes place at the county courthouse on Georgia Ave. If you'd like to make a comment to the commission, you can do so during the comment period specific to Resolution 326-17.
Thanks for your support!
