LifeVac has always maintained that choking deaths are preventable and that relying on first aid measures alone is just not always successful, particularly if those measures have very poor evidence. In the case of Decklan Haywood, it is clear that our school children are at risk regardless of the training and dedication of teachers and staff. Unfortunately, without the appropriate equipment, this type of tragedy will occur again and again. So far the NSW Education Minister and the NSW Education Department, have refused to properly consider the LifeVac and instead have spent a lot of time and effort (on taxpayer money) manipulating the facts to justify doing nothing.
