The tragic loss of life of children from choking should simply not happen! Despite the grief of the multiple parents, the promises of the NSW Education Department and the Minister, and the inquests by Coroners across Australia into the sudden death of children due to choking, where first aid failed; a child in a NSW school today is no safer than they were yesterday.  Many people read petitions like these but few realise that they can be effective in supporting necessary change and writing a different future for children across Australia.

LifeVac is not a business that is listed on the stock exchange and therefore merely making money for shareholders, nor is it seeking wealth, especially not from the misfortune of others.  In fact, most of the profits go back into the business and to support programs to save more lives. As adults we can make choices and advocate for ourselves, however, children are much more vulnerable and rely on teachers in schools and the "system" to protect their well-being. When teachers are not equipped with the appropriate tools and skills to help a child in an emergency, it is not enough for the Minister to claim that "because the current policies and procedures should have worked", there is no reason to change anything, is heartless, naive and shows the Department is out of touch. There is a motion on the books now at Orange Council to lobby the Minister to have LifeVac in every school and daycare center; after they lost a child in their area to a school-supplied frankfurt. These are preventable deaths and not just a case of "bad luck" as the Minister and her Department would have parents believe.
