Demand no bail for Lebo's attacker

The Issue

Lebo's story is one of horror and resilience. She was brutally stabbed three times on her neck by her own boyfriend, a nurse, who came to her home with the intent to murder. He meticulously planned his attack, even taking leave from work to commit this heinous crime, and left Lebo for dead. By a stroke of fate, Lebo survived, unlike many other women in South Africa who fall victim to gender-based violence every day.

In our country, the harrowing headlines of women being killed have become alarmingly frequent, with cases such as those of women in Ekurhuleni shaking communities to their core. The violence against women in South Africa is a crisis of epidemic proportions. It is time we draw the line and demand the justice these women desperately deserve.

Allowing such individuals back into society poses an imminent threat to the safety and wellbeing of women everywhere. Especially for non-first time offenders. We are demanding NO BAIL for Mahlatsi Shemane Matlabe.

We are pleading with the South Africa’s justice system to take a firm stand against gender-based violence. Granting bail to someone who has demonstrated a willingness to commit murder is an injustice to Lebo and every woman living in fear. It sends a message that their lives are expendable, easily disregarded by the everyone involved. Therefore we say NO TO BAIL.

We call upon the courts to not grant bail for Lebo's attacker to ensure that he faces the full extent of the law for his actions. This is not just about Lebo; it is about setting a precedent that violence against women will not be tolerated, minimized, or forgotten.

Join us in demanding justice for Lebo and taking a stand against the terror of gender-based violence in South Africa. Your signature is a step towards change, safety, and justice for all women. Please sign this petition and be part of the movement to protect our sisters, mothers, daughters, and partners. Together, we can demand a future where women no longer live in fear.
