Fight AntisemitismNY, États-Unis
30 mars 2024

As we hit the 5,000 signatures mark, we wanted to thank you all, from over 30 countries, who joined this cause. We know we can make it to 10,000.

We've heard many arguments and opinions in the last few days, and when the world tries to tell us that we're overreacting, it's empowering to see your comments and know that none of us are alone. We KNOW what's right, and we hope you find comfort in this page, too.

Many photos from war zones show victims; however, in most cases, the focus is the suffering of the victims. Not so is the case here, with the emphasis being on the murderers, while Shani's body is reduced to a literal faceless object.

In fact, in the original post on Instagram (which was since removed), her name wasn't even mentioned. The photo is still on the Picture of the Year website, where Shani's name is indeed mentioned. But we want more than just the removal of the photo. We want the award revoked.

We also want acknowledgment for the very controversial circumstances in which the photo was taken. It is highly unlikely that the photographers would've been there without prior knowledge of the events. Best case scenario - they stood by when a massacre happened. Worst case scenario - they took part.

And to be clear, just like Shani's father said - this photo is a part of history and needs to be seen by the world, but granting it an award for excellence is sick.

We're in the process of delivering this to the responsible parties, as well as to the media.

Keep sharing with your circles. We will not be silenced.
