May 19th 2023 marks one year since my trans partner Maddie Hofmann was killed in the hallway of our home during a wellness check by Malvern Borough Police in Pennsylvania. Less than one minute passed from the time they arrived to help a suicidal woman & shooting her. They chased Maddie into our home, tackled her and shot her twice in the chest and once in the face. Thankfully the children & I were not in the home. We know these details from the few public statements made, as they won’t release a police report to us either. Maddie was visibly transitioning & wearing a dress a the time of the homicide. A whole year & I still don’t know how to answer our kids’ questions. A year & we are no closer to answers. A year & the Malvern police are still withholding the body camera footage despite closing their investigation in two weeks. As the anniversary approaches, please help me raise awareness of the gross injustice the Malvern Police Department & Chester County District Attorney’s Office are perpetrating against myself & my children in denying us closure in the wake of our family’s devastating loss of Maddie when it is well within their powers to provide the closure we seek. They are causing irreparable harm by denying our family information foundational to our healing. This has been especially hard for my 10 year old as Maddie wasn’t just his daddy, they were his best friend. #Justice4Maddie
