Justice Still denied, Public Outrage Grows

Urgent Update: Justice Still Denied, Public Outrage Grows
The tragic incident took place on 7 April 2026, when Chinglensana and Chingbemba were killed in fresh violence that erupted in Manipur.
Despite the date and location being known, and despite visible public outrage, no culprit has yet been arrested and there has been no credible information on progress in the investigation.
Rising anger and fear on the ground
Families of the victims, local residents, and civil‑society groups have held protests demanding swift action, but they continue to face uncertainty and fear.
At the same time, terrorist organisations are using this window of impunity to escalate their demands for buffer zones, trying to normalise “no‑go” corridors under the guise of security and ceasefire arrangements.
What this means for our petition
Buffer‑zone expansion, if allowed without accountability, will only deepen divisions and make such killings easier to cover up.
Our petition is not just about justice for Chinglensana and Chingbemba; it is also about rejecting the use of violence and buffer‑zone demands to blackmail the state and people of Manipur.
We are demanding:
Immediate arrest and prosecution of all those responsible for the killings of Chinglensana and Chingbemba on 7 April 2026.
Transparent sharing of the FIR, investigation status, and chargesheet with the public and the victims’ families.
A clear policy that buffer‑zone or ceasefire arrangements must never come at the cost of justice for victims of violence.
