The tragic and senseless murder of Laurelle Mario has left her family and our community in a state of sorrow and outrage. Laurelle was  a daughter, a sister, a mother and a friend;  SHE WAS WOMAN.Her brutal and untimely death has shattered our sense of safety and trust, and we are calling upon the Provincial South African Police Services to step in and take immediate action.

The current investigation has not provided the answers or urgency required to bring closure and justice to Laurelle's family. We believe that the initial handling of the case failed to adequately reflect the grave nature of this crime. It has now become a necessity for the Provincial SAPS, with its wider resources and experienced personnel, to take over this case to ensure justice is served.

In South Africa, violence against women is a pervasive issue, with statistical evidence highlighting a dire need for swift and effective responses from our authorities. According to the South Africa Crime Statistics Report, crimes against women, including femicide, have seen alarming increases. Laurelle's murder is not just a singular tragedy but part of a disturbing trend that demands immediate attention and rectification.

We urge the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, the Department of Community Safety, and the Premier of Gauteng Province to prioritize this case. By reallocating investigative power to a higher level, we increase the chances of a thorough and unbiased inquiry. This move will signal a commitment to protecting our community and holding perpetrators accountable for their heinous acts.

Our demand is simple yet urgent: hand over the investigation to the Provincial SAPS without delay to ensure that no stone is left unturned in finding the truth and delivering justice for Laurelle. Her family, friends, and our community deserve to see those responsible brought to justice.
