Jimi, Cash, and Hendrix are three goats that were pulled from the Twist of Fate cruelty case along with their friend Johnny back in July 2022. In case you couldn't tell (lol), they were named after musicians Jimi Hendrix and Johnny Cash! In the photo above, Jimi is on the left, Cash is in the center, and Hendrix is on the right.
At Twist of Fate the four goats were found in a field with no food, water, or shelter and were separate from the other animals. All of them were emaciated, scared, and riddled with worms and parasites. I'm not sure how they first came to TOF or where they came from, but I'm told that they were taken in a few months prior to the neglect case coming to light, so most likely at a time when Ashley DiFelice was already neglecting animals and definitely should not have been taking in any more. It's also possible that they arrived at TOF with the parasites but if they did then that means that Ashley never bothered to treat them for the infestations, which would have caused them months of suffering.
When they were rescued from her they were taken in by EZ's Rescue Ranch (@ezsrescueranch) in New Jersey, USA. This sanctuary opened in February of 2022 and these 4 goats were actually their first rescues! Once they arrived to their new home they were treated for their parasites and put on proper diets to help them gain weight.
Johnny* had his story shared previously and there's a photo of him in the original petition. Unfortunately Johnny passed away one day after he was rescued because his body could not recover from all of the abuse and neglect that Ashley inflicted on him. His necropsy report* was also previously shared here in a two part update. It's so heartbreaking that Johnny was finally safe and at a place where he would receive all the love that Ashley refused to give him but he could only enjoy it for a mere few hours. It might not have even been enough time for him to truly decompress and relax, or even realize that he was safe. Johnny was only 3 years old when Ashley killed him. He became the first animal to pass away after he was rescued due to her neglect, along with Norman and Brienne, both sheep.
The other three goats had a long road of recovery but were doing well. Sadly in May of this year Jimi fell ill and passed away. The vet tried several things but nothing was working - Jimi was an older goat and his body had already been through so much at TOF and where he came from before that. EZ's was Jimi's THIRD rescue, and they did everything that they could. Fortunately his final months were filled with love, affection, friends, and a family that cared deeply about him. On a personal note, Jimi's death hit me especially hard and I cried for him too. It gave me a very small sense of what sanctuary owners have to go through over and over when they watch one of their beloved animals suffering or lose one of them.
If you would like to make a donation to EZ's to help support Hendrix & Cash or any of their other animals, you can do so via their website, PayPal, or Venmo. They also have an Amazon Wishlist! A monthly donation in any amount can be made by joining their Patreon, or you can sponsor Hendrix or Cash specifically for only $60 month to help cover their food and care. An 'in memoriam' sponsorship is also available for Jimi, which would obviously go towards the care of the many animals that call EZ's their refuge and home. You can also fill out a volunteer application if you live in or near Sicklerville, NJ! If you're able and reliable, volunteers are really needed right now...please read more about this in the next paragraph. Please give EZ's a follow too! As previously mentioned they're a newer sanctuary and could use the support. They are on Instagram (@ezsrescueranch), Facebook, and TikTok.
The owner of EZ's Rescue Ranch, Elizia, has had a very rough few months and has been dealing with numerous health problems on top of caring for EZ's animals. You can read her detailed telling of the story on her Facebook page here from August of this year (the post is set to 'public' so you do not need a FB account to view it). She also ran into a lot of walls with the US healthcare system too, which was incredibly frustrating and sadly not a surprise. Please keep Elizia in your thoughts, prayers, and hearts and please consider making a donation of any size to EZ's to help ease her mind about obtaining funds for the animals while she's still trying to recover and get well.
Thank you to Elizia and the rest of the EZ's crew for taking in these four babies and for all of your countless hours and hard work for the ongoing care and love of Hendrix and Cash, and thank you for the countless hours, hard work, and devastating heartbreak endured involved in caring for Johnny and Jimi in their final months, days, and hours.
Thank you for being here!
You can read Johnny's story here and his necropsy report here and here. Just to warn you though - it and the breakdown are pretty disturbing.
Ashley DiFelice's next court date still has not been announced. Please continue to share the petition in the meantime!
