Ashley DiFelice was in court yesterday morning on May 25th and I was able to attend virtually to watch.
Two things came out of this.
First, it was decided that the case would remain in municipal court instead of being tried at a higher court (municipal court is typically for disorderliness and misdemeanors and things like traffic tickets). We were hoping that this would be moved to a superior court, but the judge assigned to her case has previously been supportive of animals and their rights so it is possible that this case remaining in municipal court could possibly be a good thing.
Second, her trial was delayed...again. We were all expecting this as this is a common tactic. Her lawyer, Bill Wackowski, stated that there was a "reciprocal discovery" that both sides needed to review. A reciprocal discovery is "a principle of criminal procedure that requires the defendant to give the prosecution copies of any pretrial statements that a defense witness gave during discovery."
If the info is a "statement that a defense witness gave during DISCOVERY" then that info is almost a YEAR old. Why didn't they send the info back then? Or even a week ago, knowing the upcoming court appointment for Thursday morning? Simple - to delay everything.
Ashley's next day in court is scheduled for Thursday, July 13. Hopefully everything has been exchanged by all parties by then and the court proceedings can commence.
It is frustrating, infuriating and depressing that Ashley DiFelice has been enabled to live her life during this time, even celebrating a recent engagement, while everyone else CONTINUES to clean up her mess, care for the animals that she neglected and abandoned while also dealing with their own actual mental health issues, frustrations, trauma, and PTSD as well as financial worries. Many of the animals that had to be rescued from Ashley are still suffering and trying to recover from the physical, emotional and psychological damage that she did to them.
We sincerely hope that all of this results in accountability for her for the neglect and abuse that she caused, especially in order to deter anyone from doing anything like this in the future.
