🚨 UK SUPPORTERS WE NEED YOUR HELP
The Justice for Bilal Abdul Kareem campaign has taken another important step.
🏢 We have submitted an official petition to the UK Government and Parliament, calling on the British Government to make diplomatic representations to the Syrian authorities concerning detained journalists, due process, access to lawyers, family contact, protection from torture and ill treatment, and the rights of foreign nationals held in Syria.
ℹ️ Bilal Abdul Kareem, an African American journalist who has lived and reported from Syria for many years, has been detained since 22 December 2025, without formal charge or trial and with no access to a lawyer.
🤲🏻 This petition is part of our effort to bring greater attention to Bilal’s detention and to press for transparency, due process and protection from torture and ill treatment.
⚠️ There are serious documented concerns about torture and ill treatment in Syrian detention facilities. We are asking the UK Government to seek guarantees that detainees are protected from torture and ill treatment, informed of the legal basis for their detention, and given access to legal representation, family contact and a fair process.
ℹ️ You may notice Bilal’s name is not included in the official petition wording. This is because UK Parliament petitions must ask the UK Government to take action within its own powers, so the petition is framed around UK diplomatic action on detained journalists, due process and protection from torture in Syria.

✍️ 100,000 signatures = the petition must be considered for debate in Parliament.
