Our petition has over 3100 signatures but we have heard nothing from the County Commissioners.  Below is a summary of the letter we have sent to Governor Stein asking him to engage in this critical matter.

Executive Summary of the letter to Governor Stein

This letter is written by Dr. Jon V. Martell, MD, founder of the Cape Fear Five Star Project, to Governor Josh Stein, requesting his support for improving the quality of care at New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC). Dr. Martell highlights the hospital's concerning two-star rating from Medicare and its recent "C" grade for safety from the Leapfrog Group. These ratings reflect a failure to meet the commitment Novant Health made in acquiring NHRMC to place the hospital in the top 10% of hospitals nationwide for quality.

Dr. Martell outlines the Cape Fear Five Star Project’s resolution calling for a five-year strategic plan, resource allocation, measurable milestones, and semi-annual progress updates to ensure accountability. Despite support from over 3,000 local residents through a petition, the New Hanover County Commissioners have yet to act on the resolution.

This letter requests Governor Stein’s office to engage with the County Commissioners and Novant Health, urging them to uphold the quality commitments made during the hospital’s sale and ensure transparency and accountability in the improvement process.
