Demand immediate ACADEMIC EASE and SUSPENSION OF CLASS for safety of students in Bulacan
The Issue
The recent onslaught of the Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat, has left multiple municipalities in Bulacan submerged under water, paralyzing the province and disrupting daily life. Despite these harsh conditions, several Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), including Bulacan State University (BULSU), have mandated the continuation of regular classes and major academic assessments. This decision has forced countless students to trek through hazardous floodwaters and travel along impassable roads, often prioritizing academics over their own safety and well-being.
Students, faculty, and parents alike are facing immense challenges. Homes have been inundated, electricity supplies have been unstable, and public transportation remains uncertain. Forcing communities to adhere to the academic schedule under these circumstances is not only unjust but inhumane. It overlooks the importance of safeguarding the mental and physical health of Bulakeños over rigid academic timelines.
We call on the administration of BULSU and the Bulacan provincial government to prioritize the well-being of their constituents. We urge these leaders to immediately implement academic ease measures, which includes canceling scheduled classes and assessments until conditions significantly improve. This will allow students and their families the time needed to focus on recovery, ensuring their personal safety and health is not compromised.
Implementing academic ease is a practical and compassionate solution during this challenging time. By alleviating the academic burden, authorities can significantly reduce stress levels among students and faculty, demonstrating an understanding and empathy towards the extraordinary challenges they are facing.
Moreover, academic ease is not unprecedented. Other regions and institutions have recognized the need to adjust their academic calendars in response to natural disasters, setting a positive example of how to respect the needs of their communities. Bulacan should follow suit and create a supportive environment for its students and families
Let's galvanize the power of our community to push for humane and rational decisions from our educational institutions and provincial leaders. Stand with us, and together let's demand that BULSU and the Bulacan provincial government take immediate action for the safety and well-being of all Bulakeños.
Sign this petition to call for an immediate implementation of academic ease in Bulacan. Let’s advocate for safety, humanity, and compassion for everyone affected by these natural calamities.
