Happy Saturday! We have 64,505 signers and 331,951 petition views! Great job sharing! I can't thank you enough for this support. They are listening! You have to keep sharing! People still don't know! Make them aware!

This petition's existance is doing what is suppose to do. Bring awareness to a huge issue and the disconnect our government has to its people.

I am mixing it up today. This update is dedicated to just petition comments posted only. I read ever single one of them. There are thousands! It is heartbreaking to see all of these people struggle. Just picking out the few but there are too many to listed here.

Connecticut energy policies are broken! Connecticut is broken!  No help from Gov Lamont who continues to push the Green/Renewal Energy at all cost! Where does it stop?

Enough said. Here are the comments:

Karen 1 week ago My father, a war vet and 94 years old, who has paid his bills his entire life on time, now struggles to pay his light bill. He is on a fixed income and has to shop for food carefully because he can’t afford both. How is this fair and just? Why does he have to pay for others who don’t pay? You want him to be another statistic where he loses what he has worked his entire life for? This is obscene and demeaning.

This has to change otherwise we the people who are paying for others will now be one of the ones who needs help to survive. This to mean smells of corruption. I am beyond angry and disappointed in our state and our government. You’re killing us …..how is this even happening where ur light bill is like a mortgage?? That’s only one bill we have to pay.

Lissette 2 days ago I have been a big supporter of the things the governor has done. However this is not right and it is not ethical. It’s one thing to maybe have the public contribute $5-15 but based on usage is insane.

So many families are already struggling with inflation. The middle class is really hurting here. Everything has gone up, we pay for things such as child care, already are taxed for everything, qualify for no assistance and now have to pay astronomical prices to “help” others yet we need assistance ourselves.

This is wrong and I am speaking against this. I am all for helping those in need but not when it comes at the expense that we have to ruin other families in the process. There has to be another solution as this is not the right one.

leotta 2 weeks ago Y'all lost y'all damn minds 😒

Toni 3 weeks ago I've had enough!! Connecticut is getting too expensive to live in. We are seriously considering moving out of state and taking our tax dollars with us.

Heather 2 weeks ago I am part of the middle class. Both my husband and myself have full time jobs. The current cost of electricity is straining our budget. Soon we will not be able to afford the cost of electricity. The public benefit is no different than a tax. The public benefit needs to stop or there will be more people who can’t afford to pay for their own electricity! My July bill increased $200 and now there’s another increase.

COVID money should’ve been used to cover the COVID moratorium. PURA and the politicians who approved this are completely out of touch with the economic reality that most Connecticut residents live in. Please stop assuming that we can afford to pay for other people’s circumstances and choices!

June 2 weeks ago I just moved from a 3+ bedroom home to a 1 bedroom apartment and my electric bill is HIGHER than my house was!!!!! How do expect seniors to live essentially on a fixed income. RIDICULOUS!!!!

Colleen 2 weeks ago I am now on disability we live on my husband's paycheck so we went from two paychecks to one our taxes are high the gas bills are high and we can get by on groceries due to the increase my last bill was a car payment. We cannot afford this increase this is absolutely mind-boggling that you're making people who live in Connecticut pay an extra amount of money we pay on our gas tax when getting gas EV Vehicles do not pay that now so now we're going to be charged for Ev station that should go in the sale with the EV vehicle we should not be having to pay this I don't believe in EV cars nor will I ever purchase one. You've already increased my bill by $150 now you want another increase!

MARY ALICE 2 days ago I am an 82 year old woman on Social Security. CT has raised my real estate taxes, my water bill, house and car insurance, and now you mandate that I give a donation on my electric bill. If you want me to leave CT just mandate that you don't want old people here.

Maureen 2 weeks ago I am a 76 year old widow, retired St. Francis RN living in our same modest cape for almost 45 years. I have 1 5000btu ac which I use sparingly, live on 1 floor, using only 3 rooms. FIXED INCOME but I don’t qualify for energy assistance. Help! It’s downright mean of eversource to steal my hard earned $! I subtracted the $36.00 public benefits charge from my bloated bill, over $60.00 more than June which also had several triple H days. My blue collar values were supposed to reward me in my golden years. All I’m seeing is tarnish. What specifically IS public benefits? Socialism?

heather 3 weeks ago You are making it impossible for people to eat. You reward people who are able to work but too lazy to. Meanwhile the working class and business owners make less and less to support them. Stop enabling the lazy and punishing the hard working people.

Michele 6 days ago On a fixed income Now that my husband has Lewy body dementia. I worked hard to conserve on my electricity, only to have eversource ( or they say it’s government mandated). Take 117 dollar I don’t have. Vote the democrats out There turning American into Venezuela

Louise 3 weeks ago I am a single mother forced into retirement. My bill for my small two bedroom home is $781.00. We are very careful never to leave lights on etc. I just don't know how we are going to do this. First, we unplugged every device not currently in use and only plug something in when we need it. So, there is no waste here. What are others doing to cope?

Kevin 3 weeks ago This is a serious emergency for the State of Connecticut. Very few knew this was coming and did not have time to prepare for 10 - 12 months of extremely high payments. There are now hundreds of thousands of Connecticut residents worrying about not being able to afford food, medication, or housing. This is disgusting on so many levels. Hopefully this makes it to national news SOON. If Connecticut residents are loud enough about this, it will hurt Eversource’s stock price and they will be forced to change.

Lura 2 weeks ago I feel strained to pay the burden of the publics benefits charge. We need affordable electricity for the hard-working middle class. I grew up poor, but my parents taught me to pay bills first and to sacrifice the frivolous things. I worked my way through college to become a public educator. I am disheartened by the amount of money being taken from me for this public benefits charge. My earned money is super valuable to me since I know how hard I work for it and that I should be a prudent steward of my finances. This charge must be eliminated to make energy fair and affordable for residents.

Eliana 2 weeks ago At a time of economic hardships, the fact that TWO rate hikes have so thoughtlessly been approved is beyond belief and shows the disconnect between our politicians and those who have mistakenly elected them. Shame on them for not investing what these hikes would actually amount to for the average households that are already struggling.

Michele 2 weeks ago I’m a hardworking employed individual. When people have to choose whether to put food on the table or pay their electric bill, it is a crisis. If Eversource is looking for ways to pay past bills, start with the CEO. Cut his 19 million dollar a year salary. Don’t put it on the backs of Other people!

Beth 2 weeks ago This is absolute insanity! People cant afford the basics of food, rent and utilities these days while corporations like Eversource and our state are making record profits. Start representing those you were elected to serve!!!

Steven 3 weeks ago I am disheartened by the continued push of our legislators to redistribute wealth through policies benefiting those that do not hold themselves accountable for their own contributions to themselves their families and our communities.

Keith 12 hours ago  (Edit for brevity) The charge for this communist tax on my bill exceeds the supply charges! How ludicrous. We do everything that we can in our household to conserve electricity to save money and not waste precious resources. We haven't missed paying the electric bill once in almost thirty years living in CT. At the same time, this state pisses away money like a drunken sailor. I don't blame Democrats, I blame voters that don't recognize that history repeats itself. Fiscal irresponsibility begets more of the same....

... Call it ignorance or call it hypocrisy, but it's going to take more than a 20% increase to the communist "Public Benefits" tax to motivate the people of this state to vote for the best candidate rather than pull that blue lever. In the meantime, more "wealth" will be taken from the hardworking and spent however our non-representatives in Hartford see fit.

Bryan 1 week ago I’m a single guy who works 8am-5pm Monday through Friday and my electric bill from UI was $300 last month for a 975 sq ft Ranch. I’m NOT home during work hours and half the weekend. I work my ass off to support myself and now I’m paying for everyone who did not pay their bills during Covid??! I struggled to pay my bills during Covid like many others on and this is absolutely ridiculous that I’m paying for everyone else who chose to NOT pay bills but take the extra assistance from unemployment. Get these DAMN DEMOCRATS out of office immediately!!!!! Why do the hard working people get penalized for the scumbags who take advantage of the system????

Johnny 1 week ago If I have to pay for your EV charging station then will you pay for my gas?

Dale 2 weeks ago These charges are outrageous. We should not be made to pay for EU charges if we do not have electric cars.

George 2 weeks ago This is a socialist program of which there already welfare programs for those in need of assistance. Tell Lamont to stop screwing the working class.

Lynell 2 weeks ago Plain and simple this is making my bill unaffordable. It is not sustainable!!!

Gerald 2 weeks ago I have never been forced to donate money to anyone or organization. If you want me to donate money in this country you have to ask and then it becomes my choice. Are we getting to the point where we have less choices then our country had before?

Barbara 2 weeks ago The extra money is crazy. How much more do CT residents have to take. My pay didn't go up. I am an older woman and the cost of electricity is too high. And now you want to raise the rates yet again!!! Heck no!!

Cosmo 2 weeks ago  Me and my wife are retired on a fixed income, it will and extra stress to are living and dealing with this inflation times!

Kathleen 2 weeks ago I’m tired of getting up everyday, going to work and after almost 50 years of doing so, I’m still having most of my salary being spent by these exorbitant add on fees-between my $ being taxed multiple times before it hits my pocket, and then to find out the UI bill, which is already crazy, to continue to have their rates raised?? When is this robbery going to end?

I thought after over 50 years of working hard, paying my way through college, I would be starting to enjoy the fruits of my labor. STOP THIS ROBBERY. Let’s hold our elected officials accountable. I work hard for my money. I’d like to be the one that decides how I spend it. What will happen, if nothing changes, is the charities I already donate to through payroll deductions will start to feel the pinch. Our money can only be stretched so far.

Meredith 2 weeks ago I’m on a payment plan that Z Eversource put me on in April in the amount of $895.00 per month!!!! I cannot afford this every month but Eversource stated I will be shut off if not paid that amount ea h month!! My full Eversource bill is $3200 all together. My home is full electric. I would have never bought a house if I knew this was going to end up like this!! We are now starting to look to sell our home, we cannot afford this!! It’s very disappointing!!

DONNA 2 weeks ago The people of CT cannot afford this forced extortion. This will put business out of business & is a hardship on our taxpayers, ESPECIALLY out seniors. We the people ARE taking action on this one.

Shannon 2 weeks ago I have owned my own home since I was 29 (ten years ago). I have always been able to pay for bills, taxes etc. These last few years have been really tough. As a mom of a 21/2 year old trying to make ends meet the electric and gas prices put it over the top for me. I have reached out for help from family several times now. I can’t keep paying these astronomical prices. I moved 40 mins from where I work to make housing costs more affordable and still I’m struggling. Please help.

Mary-Kaye 2 weeks ago  Living on a fixed income is difficult enough and then people like my husband and I , who have always paid our bill completely and on time, have to pay for those that don’t pay their bill! Not the American way! You use it you pay for it. It’s one thing to be asked to contribute to paying someone’s bill, but to assume I can give the amount that is being taken out is unAmerican. Are commercial businesses being asked to pay this Public Benefits fee?

Stuart 2 weeks ago Absolutely terrible what’s happening. Who can afford rate hikes in this economy? Why do loyal ratepayers who pay ON TIME AND IN FULL have to pay for other people? Why do we pay astronomical taxes already in the State on Connecticut and now have this added to the extensive list of ways our hard earned money is being taken from us? A company reporting a ton of profit and they think it’s a good idea to squeeze the middle-class even more? THIS IS CRIMINAL and eversource and the state of CT should be ashamed of themselves for letting it get to this point. People will take to the polls and oust any politicians that had a hand in this. Just stinks we have to wait until elections to do so as we continue to get robbed blind.

Michele 2 weeks ago Less than 1% of the people in Connecticut own a EV, therefore, why are we expected to pick up their tab? EV owners should be taxed to cover highway usage because they are not paying for gasoline surcharges as well as any infrastructure needs to support their choices.
