Dear Petitioners,
I am writing to share another incident that highlights the concerning racial and cultural climate at Ventnor Public School District. I encourage you all to take a moment to read an article I came across and view some footage from a relevant board meeting. In summary, it was claimed that an educator was teaching that slavery was a positive thing, and shockingly, the investigation concluded that the educator was in compliance with the curriculum.
At the time of the incident, Somershoe served solely as the school's principal, but she now holds both the positions of superintendent and principal. While her role may have evolved, it is crucial to acknowledge that she played a significant part in further shaping the school's culture and activities during that period—much as she does now by endorsing, supporting, initiating, and engaging in behaviors that have adversely affected my family.
On a better note, I am grateful to have connected with the applicable parent who sought refuge out of the district due to fear of retaliation from staff engaged in nepotistic and unethical behavior. Together, we are determined to seek justice for my children, her child, and other families who have been silenced, and we are committed to preventing such activities from ever occurring again.
I appreciate your ongoing support in the mission to address these serious issues and bring about positive change for all students and families at Ventnor Public School District.
