Demand for Authentic Romantic Comedy Ending for Love Next Door

The Issue

Like many others, I began watching the new Kdrama "Love Next Door", excited for a promise of laughter, hope, and love. A romantic comedy was promised, but instead, my heart has been shattered episode after episode, by an unanticipated solemnity and darkness. Regardless of the drama format, audiences deserve to have narrative promises honored, not replaced with dispiriting plots and torturous twists.

Indeed, the effect of TV dramas going dark is not just upon individual viewers like me. Several studies have found that TV shows can significantly impact our mental health. Cambridge University research found that TV show storylines could lead to an increase in mood disorders (2015). Not denying the need for intricate plots, we insist the producers not to forget the light, and to balance the plot twists with humor, the promised love, and hope.

Furthermore, "Love Next Door", with an average view rate of millions per episode, has the responsibility to deliver not just a compelling narrative, but also the right mood to its audiences worldwide. Presenting unexpected sorrowful elements disguised as a Romcom is misleading for viewers preparing for a feel-good show.

So, join me in petitioning the producers of "Love Next Door" and other Kdramas - Let's demand adherence to promised genre conventions and save our heartstrings from undue stress. Your signature shows your support for authentic happy endings, for the love of Kdrama, and for uplifting and positive viewing experiences we all deserve. Sign the petition.

Choi Seung-hyo deserves to be treated with respect and kindness! Seok-ryu, girl, calm down!
