🚨🚛BREAKING: Ipswich Garbos and Council Workers endorse further strikes on Friday 20th, Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th of December, after the Council has again refused to adjust their sub-standard wage offer.
TWU and Australian Workers' Union - Queensland Branch Members are asking for a modest pay rise and an increase to super, so that they can continue to support their families, and one day retire with dignity.
Garbos and field staff wages have gone backwards in real terms by 8% over the last three years, due to inflation and cost-of-living pressures.
These workers don’t want to strike, they’d rather do the job that they love in the community that they live in, but they’ve been left with no choice.
Our attempts at good faith bargaining have been met with dishonesty from Ipswich City Council and misleading claims from the Mayor and CEO in the media. We’re severely disappointed in the Council’s unwillingness to resolve this dispute, which will result in over 120,000 missed bin collections.
The TWU apologises to Ipswich residents for this disruption and encourages them to take a stand against this Council.
