Dear supporters,
It has been over 18 months since Superintendent Marrero was tasked with developing a comprehensive safety plan. Despite the passage of 18 months, none of us have a clear understanding of what that plan entails.
Instead of addressing our safety concerns, our principal Kurt Dennis was terminated after issuing a safety warning. Meanwhile, Marrero received a pay raise, and yet no substantial progress has been made on our school safety plan. The only notable action taken was a costly trip involving eight individuals to Harvard, resulting in the creation of a meaningless vision statement.
Grants are available for us to access, as I discovered during the planning process for this event. Unfortunately, DPS (Denver Public Schools) seems lethargic in adopting the advanced technology already accessible today, which could significantly enhance school safety. Instead of addressing this crucial matter, certain members of the DPS Board appear more interested in garnering media attention for themselves. Moreover, one director has resorted to constant falsehoods when communicating with our parent community.
As concerned parents and members of the community, we demand the reinstatement of Kurt Dennis and we refuse to wait for their actions to fix safety issues. The DPS organization demonstrates an alarming lack of urgency and severe leadership issues.
Consequently, we must unite the community to educate ourselves on best practices and exert pressure on DPS to take action. Alternatively, we are prepared to initiate the process of recalling these directors. This course of action would facilitate the replacement of leadership, thus restoring common sense and promoting servant leadership.
On August 26th at 3 pm, we invite you to join us at the Sam Gary Public Library in Central Park. During this event, we will assemble experts from various safety and security disciplines to guide our community in understanding what constitutes effective school safety. Please note that space is extremely limited, as the venue can only accommodate up to 100 people. Additionally, we are fortunate to have an expert flying in from out-of-state to contribute to the discussion.
Reserve your free tickets and come to meet with other concerned community members at https://events.humanitix.com/denver-school-safety-townhall-parkhill
I will be at the event and I look forward to meeting many of you to look at steps forward to address the concerning issues around Kurt's termination and school safety.
In Solidarity, Eve
