In September of 2015, City Commissioner Charles Goston brought hope to the people of Gainesville when he claimed to have met with representatives from the American-family-style all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant "Golden Corral" about building a location in East Gainesville.

The people of Gainesville rejoiced at the prospect of a chocolate fountain located in our beautiful city. An end to the East Gainesville food desert.

In April of 2016 Commissioner Goston reaffirmed his commitment to bring America's #1 Buffet and Grill to East Waldo Road. He promised additional eateries and chain stores including Olive Garden, Outback Steakhouse, Publix, a movie theater, and a CVS location. Breadsticks, ribeye, pub-subs, galore! This would bring much needed economic development to East Gainesville.

Alas, it was not to be. Commissioner Goston still claims to be in talks with Golden Corral representatives, but public records requests and city inquiries have produced no evidence of these talks or plans.

We demand that Commissioner Charles Goston stop playing with our hearts and appetites. Will there be a Brass Bell Bakery in our fair city? Can we expect a carving station and a mix of numerous hot and cold dishes?

Commissioner Goston is running for re-election with the slogan "Putting People First". Well, Commissioner Goston, the people want to know about Golden Corral.

We demand that Gainesville City Commissioner Charles Goston show us the plans and/or evidence of a Golden Corral to be built on East Waldo Road.
