The Issue

I'm heartbroken and terrified. Every day, women in our community continue to face violence at the hands of men, and the very institutions meant to protect us seem dismissive of our fears. This isn't just statistics; these are our mothers, our daughters, our sisters, and our friends. I find myself constantly worried for the safety of the women I cherish most in my life, wondering if they'll become next week's tragic headline.

The reality is stark: In the UK, a tragic woman is killed by a man every three days, according to the Office for National Statistics. This isn't just a 'women's issue'; this is a societal failing that demands urgent reform. The police, tasked with our protection, often fall short, prioritizing outdated procedures over genuine safety.

Why should any woman have to 'act normal' when the threat is palpable? Why should we ask our daughters and mothers to be strong in silence when they deserve safety and justice? The fear women carry when they leave work after dark or simply walk to their cars is debilitating—no one should have to live this way.

However, change is possible. We demand that our police forces undergo stringent re-evaluation of their protocols when dealing with domestic violence and gender-based crimes. Immediate response teams trained specifically in handling these sensitive situations need to become a standard, not an exception. Further, expanding resources for women in danger—like hotlines and safe houses—is crucial and must receive more funding without delay.

Enacting policy change requires us to stand together and voice our concerns. Each signature on this petition represents alli support for a safer world for women. We can no longer accept negligence as normal. We need laws that prioritize protection for women and enforce strict consequences for violence against them.

Join me in demanding a safer future for our loved ones. Sign this petition and urge policymakers to protect and respect women's rights to live without fear.
