Cumbria Safari Zoo is Closing!
We are thrilled to announce that after years of campaigning, Cumbria Safari Zoo will finally close its doors! This incredible outcome could not have been achieved without your support - thank you to everyone who signed this petition and joined us in calling for change.
For nearly a decade, Freedom for Animals has campaigned against the neglect and suffering inflicted upon animals held captive at this facility. Through undercover investigations, detailed legal reports, protests, and open letters, we have worked to expose the poor conditions at the zoo, and raise public awareness on the dire conditions the animals were being held in. The zoo has now confirmed they will be closing the doors of the site at the end of December 2024. The voices of thousands of compassionate people like you played a pivotal role in this victory - so thank you!
While this is a moment to celebrate, we believe our work to be far from over. We remain deeply concerned about the welfare of the animals still held at the zoo, and what plans are in place for their rehoming. Freedom for Animals is urging local authorities to ensure these animals are rehomed to appropriate, accredited sanctuaries, where they can live free from exploitation and receive the care they desperately deserve.
