One might expect that a government/taxpayer-funded agency would show more respect to the collective hand that feeds it - i.e. the citizens of Canada. Not so. 
In recent years, two official parliamentary e-petitions, together amassing 113,859 signatures, were launched in opposition to the air exports of live horses for slaughter:
1) 36,175 Canadians signed petition e-4190 (closed February 7, 2023), initiated by Jann Arden and sponsored by MP Alistair MacGregor
2) 77,684 Canadians signed petition e-3187 (closed June 18, 2021), initiated by Sinikka Crosland and sponsored by MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith. 
Yet the CFIA and the Ministry of Agriculture and Agri-Food callously turned a blind eye to the will of the people. They continue to support a cruel industry that sends large, gentle draft horses across the ocean to be slaughtered for an elite Japanese cuisine.

To date, petition e-6857 concerning another CFIA debacle (government mishandling of innocent ostriches in Edgewood, B.C.) is nearing a signature count of 39,000. Please continue to write to our decision-makers, letting them know that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency needs a complete overhaul - now, without excuses, without delay.
