Over 9,000 of you stood with Sierra and Naomi, and on October 7 the Crown filed an appeal

Dear Supporters,

I am writing to share a monumental update in our fight for justice. Because of your incredible support and over 9,000 voices who stood with us, our community's call for accountability has been heard.

On October 7, 2026, the Crown formally filed a Notice of Appeal with the Court of Appeal for Ontario (view CTV News linked here).

The Crown is directly challenging the conditional house arrest sentence, arguing that a two-year sentence to be served at home is “demonstrably unfit” given the catastrophic gravity of this crime.

Prosecutors are officially asking the higher court to overturn the initial ruling and sentence the driver to the originally requested four years in a federal penitentiary.

This is a critical first step toward meaningful accountability for 12-year-old Sierra and her mother, Naomi. It sends a clear message that the devastating loss of a child and the permanent, catastrophic injuries inflicted on a family cannot be answered with home confinement.

While we fight for accountability in the courtroom, our family's daily battle continues at home. Naomi’s medical rehabilitation and 24-hour care require immense, ongoing financial resources.

Furthermore, this upcoming legal process means the family faces extensive travel and lodging expenses to attend Court of Appeal proceedings in Toronto.
