On September 6, 2016, NO MORE HEROIN's founder, Camelia Carter, issued correspondence to every single member of the Ohio House of Representatives, Governor Kasich (Ohio - requested meeting), Senator Portman(Ohio - requested meeting), Sherrod Brown (Ohio) and many others to introduce a carefully devised plan to place the country into a STATE OF EMERGENCY utilizing The Parker Resolution™. THIS CORRESPONDENCE WAS ALSO ISSUED TO DEPARTMENT OF DRUG POLICY DEPARTMENT IN THE WHITE HOUSE. While we cannot speak for every member of The Nationwide Community involved in the fight against heroin, we here at NO MORE HEROIN believe all would agree that The Parker Resolution™ would be a "dream come true". The most pressing issue that I would like to discuss is: DECLARATION OF STATE OF EMERGENCY TO ACTIVATE MILITARY, CDC, FEMA/EMA AND RED CROSS utilizing "The Parker Resolution" as a template. Other topics I would like to discuss at length are: Immediate Creation of PSA's (We Are More Than Just A Statistic & What To Do For Overdose) Immediate Creation of Sudden Loss Trauma Response Teams For Families of Overdose Victims Immediate Creation of Emergency Grants to Provide Financial Relief For Families with Sudden Loss Immediate Restructuring of Inmate Populations to Utilize Existing Facilities as Treatment Facilities Immediate Expansion of mobile emergency service programs to support individuals in crisis Immediate Creation of Public Grants for SUD/Peer/CDCA Counselor Training & Licensure Immediate Expansion of Naloxone Training and Distribution Immediate repeal of the 16 bed rule Topics Recommended by my Colleagues: Immediately require that all licensed addiction treatment programs accept patients on methadone or buprenorphine medication Immediate Expansion & Possible Mandate of/for FQHC's (Federally Qualified Health Centers) for dual diagnosis Immediate Creation and Expansion of Bloodborne Pathogen Prevention Programs (needle exchange) Immediate Creation and Distribution of Education & Awareness Materials for General Public I am fully aware that your office may not be able to address all of these topics but am confident that you will be able to get me in touch with the proper individuals or committees at Federal/State levels who are willing to enter into discussions and begin working with me to address these issues. On July 8, 2016, NO MORE HEROIN™ was founded. On August 7, 2016, NO MORE HEROIN created a petition to DEMAND A STATE OF EMERGENCY™ for the State of Ohio that garnered the support of about 5,000 people from all over the country within the first 48 hours. On August 9th, at a rally in Akron, in front of a crowd of thousands, NO MORE HEROIN announced that this petition would be amended to include the entirety of the United States. This petition currently has over 11,000 signatures.
