Montgomery County wants to dump adoptable friendly cats/kittens outside like feral cats.
Montgomery County wants to dump adoptable friendly cats/kittens outside like feral cats.
The Issue
A poorly written community cat program accepted by county officials will allow Texas Litter Control to take cats/kittens from the shelter and spay/neuter them, then place them outside all over the county. They will be paid $40 per cat/kitten. Texas Litter Control is aiming for releasing 300 cats/kittens a month. The majority of these cats are adoptable and friendly. Kittens 8weeks+ and weighing at least 2 lbs qualify for this program. Dr Hayden who is the new Director of the shelter dishonestly implies these cats/kittens were euthanized previously and this program is the only way to save them. This is simply not true. MCAS has had a very strong foster/volunteer base since 2008. Since Dr Hayden took over in March he has dismantled the life saving network for the shelter animals. The new foster/rescue coordinators are only allowed to place pleas for animals that need out of the shelter on 1 facebook page. They are not allowed to network them anywhere else. Animals who are in danger of euthanasia are not posted anywhere. Rescues that pull from the shelter are not being contacted. There has been an ongoing battle between Commissioner Jim Clark who over sees the shelter and the fosters/volunteers. This community cat program will remove the majority of the cats out of the shelter and that means there will be no need for fosters/volunteers. I will attach the Community Cat Program as it was proposed to county officials.
