Hello everyone thank you for taking the time to read this petition. I have recently lost my universal credit due to the fact i have a student maintanace loan, as the name suggests its a loan if i had got a private loan from a bank i would not of lost my universal credit so why should i lose it threw student finance.

I recently decided i wanted to better myself as being a disabled mother of three their really isnt alot of options for me and a career, i was fed up of not being able to live a normal life like afford holidays for my kids and afford basics like clothing and sometimes food so i thought it was time i did something for us all. My daughter is 18 and came to me with a buisiness idea and she wanted us to do this together but neither of us knew anything about buisines so we went along to an open day at our local university and thats when i decided to take on higher education i had no idea it would affect my family so much in the long run.

Universal credits ruling is they will calculate the maxium maintanance loan you can get and take it off your universal credit which means for most of us we will get nothing, but what makes it worse is they will do this whether you get the maintanance loan or not! We are a family of five and losing my universal credit has impacted us massively as i have lost over £700 a month their response is your husband is working so you can live off that.

I am trying to better myself for me and my family and i think considering iv got children to look after i do not think its right losing everything i wasnt aware i would lose everything, and im not the only one how many people have tried to do the same thing and have struggled because they not only lose UC but then have to pay the loan back its wrong how we get punished twice and it needs looking at and changing, but whats even worse is if i dont get the loan they still take it off you, how is that right and fair?
