The public pressure has already made a difference, but our work to stop these terrible bills is just beginning. Assemblyman Reginald Atkins (D - District 20), Deputy Majority Leader, has signed onto A4804 as a co-sponsor.
If you can call at least one of the bill's sponsors this week, please do so. If you can make only one call, please call Asm. Atkins' office at (908) 445-7154 and explain to them why you believe Asm. Atkins to withdraw his co-sponsorship of this bill.
If you're able to make additional calls, please call the offices of the main sponsors of these bills (S3578/A4804) as well.
- Sen. Jon Bramnick, the lead sponsor of the Senate bill (S3578), can be reached at (908) 232-2073
- Asw. Michele Matsikoudis, the lead sponsor of the Assembly bill (A4804), can be reached at (908) 679-8889.
In addition to your opposition to S3578/A4804, please stress that any public hearing on these bills needs a virtual participation option and/or a public hearing session with a universal masking requirement for health, safety and accessibility reasons. Beyond the health risks of having people gathering in a crowded room without a masking requirement, we know that hearings like the Nassau County, NY Legislature's hearing on its mask ban law had issues with mask wearers being harassed. A virtual participation option and/or an in-person hearing session with a universal masking requirement would ensure safe and equal access for all of us who care about this issue.
The World Health Network (WHN) runs a weekly phone banking event every Friday at 3:00 PM ET. If you'd like assistance with talking points and/or to be part of a group push to make these calls, be sure to sign up.
WHN also holds weekly calls on advocacy efforts to fight mask bans every Tuesday from 6:15 PM to 7:00 PM. For more information visit https://whn.global/join-the-whn-legal-team/.
