*Defend ILAB*
The Issue
America's global watchdog for workers’ rights is under attack. It's time to fight back. Help us protect the Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB) and its programs to defend workers.
Created by President Truman after World War II, ILAB is a division of the U.S. Department of Labor that promotes strong labor standards and fair working conditions worldwide. Its mission is to protect vulnerable workers, combat forced and child labor, and ensure our trade partners uphold labor rights.
ILAB's work helps levels the playing field for American workers and businesses, strengthens our trade agreements, enhances our national security, and upholds the moral leadership that has defined America for generations.
Yet, like many other federal agencies with international facing work, ILAB has found itself in the Trump Administrations’ crosshairs and the agency is being significantly undermined, with millions of dollars in ongoing grants abruptly canceled, critical projects terminated mid-implementation, staffing levels cut almost in half, and potential reductions to its annual budget looming.
If ILAB is incapacitated or eliminated, the U.S. would lose one of its main ways to ensure workers’ fair treatment in the global economy. This would hurt workers in other countries and in the United States and give companies that exploit people to cut costs an unfair advantage. Gutting ILAB does not put America first.
Sign this petition to join the fight and demand that the Trump Administration fully preserve, protect, and promote ILAB and its programs to advance workers’ rights and combat child labor, forced labor, and human trafficking around the world.
Defending ILAB means defending both human dignity and American economic interests, because when workers anywhere are exploited, workers everywhere suffer the consequences.
