Hauʻoli Makahiki Hou!
Hope you and your pups had a lovely New Year, free from scary firework booms. Not much of an update, but there is a Hawaiian Humane Society Advocacy Kickoff coming up where they will be covering these topics:
- Housing access for pet owners
- Animal cruelty penalties
- Funding for no-fee and low-fee spay/neuter services

While this event doesn't focus on walking in parks, I'm hearing through my pipeline that access could be happening soon. The State doesn't have jurisdiction over these parks, so administrative rules within the Department of Parks and Recreation would need amending. You're encouraged to connect with your neighborhood boards -- The ask is that the default for all city parks would be to welcome leashed dogs unless there is a compelling reason to bar access.
