Did you catch Olivia's Wellness Walk on Sunday (6th Oct) to raise money for her ONJ Cancer Centre in Melbourne? She has something to say to you all:
"I’m pleased to be an advocate of UIC which, one of just a few in Australia, continues the ongoing fight for better access to this unique, health-giving plant. Lucy needs all the help and support she can get so I thank and congratulate everyone who’s signed this petition and helped it be where it is now. Please continue this help too if you can, however modestly.
"Assisting with work and campaigns like Lucy’s DOES NOT have to begin and end with the signing of a petition though this too is important, so please sign and share. I only wish I could thank each of you individually but with well over 400,000 names that might get a bit tricky! With much love, Olivia."
A tireless advocate for medicinal cannabis, we have nothing but the greatest love and respect for this indomitable woman who always seems to put the needs and well-being of others before hers, even as she deals with her own illness. UIC is incredibly proud to have her as one of our Patrons. We were thrilled to hear that Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt had earmarked a $3 million injection of funds for research into medicinal cannabis use as a treatment for the symptoms of cancer.
It is surprising though that this announcement came just a day after papers were reporting advice had been given to the Minister that cannabis was ‘extremely dangerous’ and could ‘double the rates of schizophrenia’ in the ACT where a couple of weeks ago it had been legalised. These exact arguments are used to stifle and limit medicinal use.
What's worse is that these ‘facts’ are completely untrue. It now seems the Government is seeking ways to roll back that legislation while I'm forced to spend time trying to clarify and correct all the misinformation.
Please visit our GoFundMe page to support our work to push for a Senate Inquiry into patient access to cannabis and cannabis products. We’re building up the #FixDansLaw “fixing fund” to fight misinformation and improve patient access. Our work is completely independent - we can’t do it without your support.
Thank you again, this time from me and Olivia
