Dear supporters, Behind the scenes, United in Compassion continues to lobby all levels of Government and this week has been extraordinary in terms of progress. On Saturday I sat down with our NSW Premier and we discussed the Tamworth Project at length. Mike Baird has given his full support to developing Tamworth as a major center for Medicinal Cannabis supply in Australia. This will be complimentary to the Compassionate Access Scheme currently in development. He understands the urgency of the situation and we now wait on the Federal Government who will table their own bill in Canberra next week. We continue to work along with Richard Di Natale and the cross party committee members who produced the Regulator of Medicinal Cannabis Bill for the Nation, to ensure that the Government proposal adequately meets the needs of the sick. A slow process has been problematic and frustrating but rest assured we continue with determination to make Medicinal Cannabis a reality for Australia in 2016. Now we have a chance to help in Canberra....below is a message from Richard Di Natale who has been a champion of this cause for Dan and for thousands like him. Please read on and lend a hand. Help send the message that this issue is above politics............................... Lucy Dear Friend, Every day across Australia, hundreds of people are forced to choose between breaking the law or easing the pain and suffering of the people they love. It’s an impossible choice, but we have a unique opportunity in the next two weeks to change that forever. Prime Minister Turnbull promised he would introduce legislation on medicinal cannabis before the end of this Parliamentary year. We must make sure he keeps his promise, and introduces a scheme that works. Tell PM Turnbull to not break his word, and to make medicinal cannabis legal this year. The Turnbull Government is deciding right now how to make medicinal cannabis accessible to these who need it most. We could end up with a complex, slow and expensive process, or we could treat it just like any other medicine that a doctor can prescribe where needed. Will you add your voice at this critical time and call on the Prime Minister to introduce new laws that will let people who are sick and dying access the medicine they need? Your stories about suffering without treatment, and being forced to make heart wrenching decisions, have changed the view of this government. Please share your story and add your voice today. We have two weeks, Richard Di Natale PS. Dan Haslam was diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer at only 20. After chemotherapy caused him rapid weight loss, nausea and depression, Dan tried cannabis to treat the debilitating symptoms. The small doses of cannabis after each session not only eased his nausea and returned his appetite – it gave Dan control over the pain and the disease. Dan’s mother Lucy, has been fighting for the legalisation of medicinal cannabis – known in his honour as ‘Dan’s Law.’ Add your name and share your story about why the fight for Dan’s Law matters to you.
