Hi all, I wanted to let you know that we now have 12012 signatures on this petition. Thank you so much for your support!
This week, Parliament took an important step toward justice for women and pregnant people across the UK. On Monday, MPs debated amendments to the Criminal Justice Bill that could finally bring an end to the criminalisation of abortion.
Labour MP Tonia Antoniazzi has tabled an amendment to display a section of the 1861 Offences Against the Person Act, which is still being used to prosecute women for ending their own pregnancies. Her amendment has support from over 90 MPs, from across all parties – a strong sign that momentum is building.
Meanwhile, Labour MP Stella Creasy has introduced a further-reaching amendment, backed by 66 MPs, that would not only decriminalise abortion entirely, but also establish a human rights-based framework for abortion access in the UK.
These amendments build on previous efforts by MP Diana Johnson, now the Government’s Policing Minister and one of the sponsors of the Bill. The fact that these proposals are being seriously considered again shows that change is possible – but only if we keep up the pressure.
⚠️ The Report Stage of the Bill – where MPs will vote on these amendments – has not yet been scheduled. This means we still have time to act.
Please keep signing and sharing this petition. Every signature is a clear message to Parliament: Abortion is healthcare. It should not be criminalised.
Would you help me get more signatures by sharing this petition with ten other people on social media? Facebook groups, SMS chats, X, email and WhatsApp all work great. If more of us sign, we can’t be ignored!
Together, we can make this happen.
Thanks again for supporting this cause.
