We at Hawthorne Midwives sincerely appreciate the efforts of MPP Zee Hamid, Halton Regional Councillor Sameera Ali, and His Worship Mayor Gordon Krantz in their continuous effort to enhance midwifery services in Milton and Northwest Mississauga. We remain concerned about the recent decision by the Ministry of Health to fund only one new registrant (NR) despite our request for two.
The Ministry of Health's decision to fund only one new registrant (NR) has a direct and significant impact on our community. This decision not only hampers our operational capacity but also directly affects the families in our community who rely on timely and accessible midwifery care, potentially leading to a decline in their health and well-being.
We call on the Ministry of Health to acknowledge the need for expanded midwifery services in the Halton Region:
o Hawthorne Midwives have two qualified NRs available immediately. Both candidates are ready to commence their roles immediately, eliminating any concerns about availability.
o Increased midwifery services significantly improve maternal and infant health outcomes, which aligns with the broader goals of the Ministry of Health and public health objectives.
We need your support in resolving this issue and ensuring our community receives the necessary maternal and child health support to thrive.
