We would all love to see official confirmation that Amber Heard has been fired. But when it comes to the entertainment industry, it’s not always that cut and dried.
Everybody in Hollywood might know for a fact that she won’t be returning as Mera in Aquaman 2. She might already know it herself. So could we. We could know that she’s already been dealt out of the movie and blacklisted from the DC universe, and blackballed in Hollywood, but might be waiting for “official” confirmation before we let ourselves believe it.
But that’s not always the way it goes in Hollywood. We might never get “official” confirmation. It’s entirely possible that the only confirmation we actually get is when they film and release the film without her in it.
I hear some Amber Stan in the back screaming: “But she has a contract! You’re stupid!” And that maybe true, on both counts. But consider this. Actors can be bought out of their contracts the same way athletes can, and for a variety of reasons. Remember when Robert Downey Junior couldn’t be insured because of his drug use? Didn’t the same thing happen to Linsey Lohan? That could be why. Or there could be a heinous breach of the contract’s morals clause. Could be she was just a nightmare to work with and they were looking for a reason to dump her.
It could be anything.
RDJ was able to regroup and make the world's best comeback, thanks to the friends he has in the industry, and I'm glad.
Whatever the reason, there’s every reason to believe that Amber Heard won’t be back in Aquaman 2. I don’t know if they’ll replace her as Mera, or if they’ll just write the character out and get Momoa a new love interest. Either way, the movie will be better for it. I, personally, look forward to enjoying it without her in it.
The moral of the story is a lot of fans already believe that Amber Heard is out. You may not, and that’s fine. But don’t hold your breath for “official” confirmation. It may not come. But when AM2 comes out without her, we’ll all be celebrating just the same.
I’m bringing the marshmallows to toast over the flames of her ruined career. Feel free to join me.
