We are concerned about lack of safety measures causing repeated accidents, particularly at the accident prone spot of Nanthoor junction Mangaluru.

With traffic snarls and the repeated fatal accidents at the Nanthoor Junction - where two National Highways criss-cross along with a road from the city - we understand that the permanent and best solution will be a flyover/underpass along with general measures.

These accidents at that place could have been averted if there was a vision by our politicians and administrators. Even now, after so much of public outrage, it is unfortunate that there is no clear timeline stated for the completion of this sanctioned project. we demand the speedy implementation of the sanctioned underpass at this intersection within minimum time.

Till that time, we demand short term measures to save lives at this dangerous area.

Regarding the short term solutions, we have heard measures from authorities' own mouth. (we refer to timesofindia dated 23-feb-2015 and daijiworld.com dated 2-Mar-2015). Therefore, we demand those measures to be implemented first.

• Reduce the circumference of the circle so that vehicles can maneuver easily.
• Reduce the size of triangular dividers near the circle to increase the width of the road.
• Shift the bus stop near the Nanthoor circle to a spot near the Ulhas bar in the area. 
• There should be free left turn on road leading to Bikarnakatte. 
• Install Signal lights at the Intersection.

Apart from these authorities' own plans, we suggest following measures from our side for a sincere consideration in the public interest for a safe raod travel across nanthoor junction:
1. Adequate number and full time presence of traffic police officers including atleast one officer above the rank of ASI.
2. Adequate lighting of this spot for safe travel at night.
3. As an exceptional case, we demand speed breakers on this particular area of highway in the best interest of the road safety.
4. CCTV cameras and monitoring the traffic.
5. On all roads leading to this accident prone spot
. all distractions by commercial ads to be removed.
. signboards mentioning "accident zone, drive slow/speed limit" be erected
. signboards mentioning the "Crossing ahead" be erected

We are demanding a time bound completion of the underpass project and immediate implementation of short term measures at this accident prone Nanthoor junction.

We demand an assurance from the concerned authorities with a clear mention of deadline within which the project will be completed.
