A council report on the fate of the Davistown Wetlands Acquisition Fund will soon be advertised - for individual submissions.
Davistown Progress Association Wetlands members & representatives have met with The Councils Administrator, State and Federal Government Members, council officials on a zoom meeting and at a meeting with Councils Planner and Biodiversity Manager.
We also held a meeting with the private owner of some of the Wetlands parcels recently advertised for sale, we tried to negotiate for them to agree to a sale using the Wetlands funds- but sadly we were unsuccessful.
We have since suggested that Council spend the funds held to restore the badly degraded many other wetland parcels owned by council in both north and south of Davistown. With the residue to be held as an ongoing wetlands maintenance fund.
We have stressed that the fund raised by sale of land in Magnolia Ave. Davistown should be spent here.
Residents of Davistown were assured that if the subdivision of land in Magnolia Ave. proceeded that the funds would be spent in Davistown.
We strongly object to the suggestion by another off-site group consulted on this that the “radius be expanded” as to where the funds could be spent. This goes against all previous understanding of where funds were to be spent.
This petition will be re-shared with Council along with a written petition of another 300 signatures.
DPA will provide a submission stating the funds should be spent solely in Davistown.
We really need to show Council that we - the people of Davistown want these funds spent here.
Please prepare your brief individual submissions to help finalise where these $2.436.00M funds are used once and for all.
With thanks
