The Issue
My name is Hayley Wolfe, I live in Thomasville NC. I am not sure who i need to contact about my situation for the Davidson County Animal Shleter being responsible wit my cat passing away. Also before reading my story please keep in mind. In 2010, 3,984 of the 4,133 cats taken in by the Davidson County, North Carolina shelter—96 percent—were put to death, 4 percent lived, While dogs fared a little better, eight out of 10 were still killed: 2,846 of the 3,625 they took in, including every dog they deemed a “Pit Bull” or “Pit Bull”-mix as a matter of policy.In 2013, the Davidson Co pound in NC took in 3440 cats and killed 3167 of them. The facility took in 3319 dogs and killed 2322 of them. The pound also took in 8 bats, 3 foxes, 6 raccoons, 1 skunk and 1 snake and killed them all. The Davidson Co pound is a gassing facility
On October 28th my cat which is name Batman got out. He is a inside cat and never gets out. My boyfriend and I went looking for it, we did find it 15 mins later with my neighbor, she was screaming at my cat and the other 2 cats it was with. Her words were " Your car was messing with my cat and I couldn't get your effin cat away from my so I took my broom to it" . She tried to say my cat scratched her after she attack my inside cat with her broom. She never showed me the scratched she just kept cussing at me, telling your cat will be gone. With no proof of my cat scratching her, also there was 2 other cats there she came to my house the next day approaching my mom about the situation.
My mom told her the cat did not have rabies and it accidentally got out. A few hours later the Davidson County Animal Control showed up at my house. My dad tried to explain that it did not have rabies and the only reason it may have attacked her was because she took the broom to it, we also tried to explain there was 2 other cats around at the time therefor any cat could had scratched her . The worker would not take our statement, she only took the neighbors. Then she went to my neighbors house with the woman who got scratched wasn't even home but someone who wasn't even at the scene identified my cat being the one who scratched her.
We had to wait nine days and pay a 91 dollar fee to get my cat back. When we got it back they gave it dewormer without us knowing, and my cat doesn't have any worms. My cat was also put in a carrier cage the whole nine days it was there, she even offered for s to keep the carrier. when the worker went to get the cat it was in the dog section not even the cat side. When we brought the cat home it had lost 12 pounds and we could not get it to eat, play or do anything. My cat would just sit there. The next day we tried to get it to play and it wouldn't, and my cat was a very healthy and playful 11 days prior. We figured it was sick from the rabies shot. My cat died that night.
We called the Davidson County animal shelter and ask why my cat died, why it lost wieght ect. They took my cat not even 1 hour after the phone call, they told us it would be taken by Health Department. 5 days later my mom called the Health department and they were never notified about a cat from the shelter, when we called back they said for us to pick it or it will go to the landfill.

We contact the Humane Society and the told us we had a case. They said my cat was wrongfully identified, there was no evidence that my cat scratched her, and the animal control worker should had took our statement not just her. We believed the animal shelter starved my cat and that is why they never took it to the health department. I want the animal shelter shut down below is more articles on why they should be closed.
