Real protection for significant trees

The issue

Our tree laws are designed to protect significant trees. Significant trees belong to everyone.

In Kensington Park (South Australia) an ancient River Red Gum is dying. At the start of winter the tree was in perfect health. Because it is on privately owned land, the council is not interested. The local Member is not interested. The local media is not interested.

Today there was a dead baby koala on the ground under the tree. Actions have consequences for our local willdlife and the environment, but there are seemingly no consequences for individuals who damage our heritage.
