We the undersigned call on UK government not to send British armed drones to the Middle East or Africa at the end of military operations in Afghanistan but to return them to the UK
Over the past decade drones have become the new way to wage war with US, Israeli and British forces using armed drones to launch thousands of missiles and bombs in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Gaza , Libya and elsewhere. Drones are lowering the threshold for launching armed attacks and simply making war more likely. Hundreds, perhaps thousands of innocent civilians have been killed in these so-called ‘precision strikes’ over the past decade.
The UK has ten armed Reaper drones which they have used to launch strikes in Afghanistan and are investing hundreds of millions of pounds in developing future drones.
As British forces withdraw, the UK wants to re-deploy their drones to Africa or the Middle-East rather than bring them back to the UK. This new deployment will likely draw the UK into further armed conflict, increase the security threat to the UK and 'normalise' the deployment of armed drones around the globe making the world a much less safe place.
