Protect our children online

Protect our children online
The Issue
Despite the fantastic opportunity the internet offers children, they are now more vulnerable than ever:
The number of children experiencing cyber bullying doubled in 2014
30% of 15 year olds have sent a naked photo of themselves at least once
17% have seen self-harm websites
73% of teachers are worried about the rise in sexting, grooming and cyber bullying both inside and outside the school
The current technology using network filtering isn’t the answer as it can only be applied at home, often doesn’t work and does nothing to protect against anything other than inappropriate content. It doesn’t help children to learn about how to navigate the Internet safely for themselves. This risks fostering a false sense of security among parents.
We want our children to get the support they need to feel safe online and to benefit from the digital age.
Join industry experts such as the UK Safer Internet Centre and back the call for:
A national government target –that every child in the UK gets online protection to suit their age wherever they are, whatever device they use
A manifesto commitment from political parties to make children’s online safety a priority in the next government
Clear, simple family guidelines on online safety from schools, health workers or police akin to road safety or sexual health advice
More funding for schools to put e-safety at the top of their agenda
This is our call to government to Commit to PROTECT.
