So we've had a debate in Parliament, 8 MP's bothered to turn up and Dominic Raab MP says nothing needs to change, the system works fine, and dog thieves are being adequately punished. Oh really!! More dogs are being stolen and some used as 'Bait' In 2015, a ground-breaking academic report, commissioned by the League Against Cruel Sports, revealed that a dog fight takes place in the UK every day. Stolen pets, such as smaller dogs and cats are used as "bait" to train canines for fights, which can last for up to 5 hours. "Bait" animals are animals used to test a dog's fighting instinct; they are often mauled or killed in the process. Many of the training methods involve torturing and killing. Often "bait" animals are stray animals, stolen pets, puppies, kittens, rabbits or small dogs. The snouts of bait animals are often wrapped with duct tape to prevent them from fighting back and they are used in training sessions to improve a dog's endurance, strength or fighting ability. A bait animal's teeth may also be broken to prevent them from fighting back. Or their teeth are filed and their nails are cut until nothing is left. DOG THEFT MUST CARRY A MANDATORY PRISON SENTENCE. The EU hasn't even banned the import or use of Dog Leather. Great Britain is probably the most civilized nation in the world. We must insist that Parliament make Dog Theft a specific offence while they still have any power left at all. To do this we need massive support. There are 10 million dogs in the UK. We need every dog owner to sign our petition.
