Eric Brown is an outstanding individual who fought in WW2 with the Fleet Air Arm. He subsequently assisted with making the UK the foremost developer of fighter aircraft and air power technology. On 3 December 1945, Brown became the first pilot to land on and (pictured) take-off from an aircraft carrier (HMS Ocean) in a jet aircraft. The aircraft he flew – the de Havilland Sea Vampire​ LZ551/G – is now preserved at the Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton, Somerset.

Captain Eric Melrose "Winkle" BrownRN​, CBE​, DSC​, AFC​, Hon FRAeS (born 21 January 1919) is a British former Royal Navy officer and test pilot who, in testing 487 different types of aircraft, has flown more types of aircraft than anyone else in history.[1][2] He also holds the world record for most aircraft carrier landings performed (2,407)[1] and is the Fleet Air Arm's most decorated living pilot.[3]
