Daniel Pelka’s Law has moved a step closer to becoming a reality after a public consultation was announced in the Lords last week, in response to continued pressure on government to introduce the mandatory reporting of child abuse in regulated settings. When I launched the Campaign for Daniel's Law in August 2013, it was difficult to persuade any MP to lend support because of the potential cost involved in the introduction of mandatory reporting, and the necessary overhaul of child protection infrastructure to support it. Tremendous progress has been made. The Lib Dems recently voted unanimously in support of mandatory reporting at their party conference, Labour are supportive in principle but appear unclear as to how it might be applied, and the Conservatives have been conspicuously quiet since both Cameron and Gove suggested it may be time to consider new legislation... after which the Cabinet was reshuffled. As the UK struggles to progress high profile child abuse enquiries, we embark on the road to the next General Election, May 2015. It's up to the public to put child protection firmly at the top of the political agenda and make it a vote winner. Today, we stand at 188,000 signatures - let's make certain our numbers continue to grow and make us impossible to ignore. Please keep signing and sharing for change; children can't stop child abuse - adults can. Thank you. Paula @paulabarrow @danielslaw2 @mandatenow
