End the Yearly Slaughter of Ponies From Dartmoor

Every year ponies on Dartmoor are rounded up and slaughtered for either zoo meat and also meat for human consumption. We call on Dartmoor National Park whose emblem is a Dartmoor Pony to put in place measures to end the yearly barbaric slaughter of hundreds of these sentient beings and instead put in place a management plan that has been voted in and agreed to by all pony keepers on the moor. The ponies need to have protected status - they draw in many visitors to Dartmoor, excel as riding, therapy, companion ponies when they leave the moor. They are worth more than meat value, by promoting them as meat they are seriously devalued and pony keepers will never fetch a decent price for them at market. There is doubt at how humanely these feral animals can be slaughtered. There is doubt about the safety of the meat. At the drift the ponies should be given at least 2 weeks for owners to come and claim them and a further 2 weeks for organisations to find suitable homes. Please ensure there is no further waste of life by insisting on the removal of entire stallions/colts for a period of 2 years whilst a long term solution can be agreed. As your emblem you have a duty to protect them it is now time to do this
