Put Community Gardens before cars

The issue

Recently, a Community Garden was established on a private car park in Northcote. The aim was to create some greenery and a place to sit and chat.

However, Darebin Council have decided that community gardens and the local community are less important than cars. They have issued the owners of the car space with a $750 fine and demanded the immediate removal of the garden.

They claim the owners are in breach of a “Parking Management Plan” that requires residents to “share” car parks. The majority of these residents enjoy the garden and want it to stay. They believe they are meeting the council requirements by “sharing” a garden, and that this is more important than “sharing” a car park.

Please tell Darebin Council that Community Gardens and people are more important than cars.
