On Sunday May 19, 2019 our son was nearly abducted in Spanish Fork, Utah by two brothers, Philip and John Jensen. The only reason these men were not successful in taking our son, was because my husband and I were being extremely vigilant. After trying to take our son, John followed me back to my car and when confronted by my husband, Philip jumped out of the van and attacked him. 

The police department arrested these men for child kidnapping and sent them to the Utah County Jail. Within less than 24 hours these men were back out on the streets with their charges being dismissed by the judge. Why? Because they hadn’t succeeded in taking our son. It was just an attempt......these men had also attempted to coerce more children and were terrorizing the Spanish Fork community.  

We strongly believe that no child should have to go through the trauma of actually BEING abducted for their would be abductors to be charged with a crime. We have witnessed first hand the trauma that comes from just an attempted abduction, and we now feel that since OUR son is safe, we need to get a law in place to protect other children from child predators and would be abductors. These men had attempted to coerce 3 other children over a 2 month time frame before attempting to take ours. They were escalating and the police departments hands were tied because these other children had gotten away as well. 

Our goal is simple. We would like to create a new law, called Maddox’s Law in Utah where a person who attempts to take a child will be charged, instead of just let go out on to the streets again. Because criminals and predators should not keep being released onto the to perfect their crimes!
